10 highest grossing Nollywood actors for 2018

2018 was an incredible year for the Nigerian movie industry. In a report by PwC ‘Nigeria’s entertainment and media industry revenue witnessed a 25.5% growth. This amounted to $3.8 billion with $605 million of the estimated $764 million rise said to be attributable to internet access. Nollywood, which is currently the third largest in the world after Hollywood and Bollywood, has Internet access revenue accounting for 89.6% of this absolute growth.‘

Locally and internationally, Nigerian movies grossed millions of naira in the box office and receivied major accolades across the continent. Nollywood is becoming a lucrative and structured movie business. There’s a growing cinema culture in the country and fans are eager to see the latest Nollywood film released.

This is evident in the box office numbers recent films are doing. The Nigerian Box Office compiled a Yearbook 2018/2019 released in partnership with comScore, the official data reporting partner. The list, it was stated, was arrived at using daily reports received from all cinemas in Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia. comScore generated box office reports and insights to arrive at the 10 highest grossing Nollywood actors.

According to the list, collated by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, Falz was 2018’s most bankable star, appearing in three films — New Money, Merry Men & Chief Daddy — that grossed over ₦5oo million. Following him closely behind is RMD, whose top three films came to a total of ₦496 million, Konbini reports.
