Chi Modu’s ‘Uncategorized’ Presented in Lagos, Captured by Melanin Unscripted Through Amarachi Nwosu

Creative platform Melanin Unscripted, founded by multi-disciplinary creative Amarachi Nwosu teamed up with celebrated hip-hop documentarian Chi Modu for a short visual story highlighting his homecoming exhibition titled ‘Uncategorized’ that took place in Lagos, Nigeria in collaboration with Budweisers BUDX platform.

In Amarachi’s words, ‘The video explores his story as a Hip-Hop documentarian while also highlighting how his work and story has inspired young people around the world, which has helped fuel youth culture in places like Lagos. From skaters to DJ’s and dancers, the foundation of Hip-Hop and American youth culture has been an inspiration to the current Nigerian creative/cultural renaissance. As a keeper of history and shaper of the next generation, Chi plays an instrumental role in transcending the culture visually.

The video will take the viewer on a visual journey through New York and then Lagos with Chi Modu as he reflects on his dual upbringing and how that has led him to his homecoming exhibition in Nigeria that has allowed him to bridge two cultures.

Chi Modu’s work shines in his exhibition, bringing his most memorable and defining images which captured hip-hop legends, Tupac, Biggie, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Mary J Blige and more, displaying the strong bonds he built with each of them. The bond allowed him to show a delicate side to these global stars, their humble starts before the fame and flashing lights.
