Fresh attacks by Gunmen in Plateau State left at least 15 dead, including a university student

Armed men carried out attacks in the communities of Tilengpat and Butura in Bokkos and Mangu local government areas of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals. Among the deceased is a 200-level Computer Science student of Plateau State University in Bokkos.

According to sources, the gunmen struck during the night while residents were asleep, initiating the attack with sporadic shooting around 9 p.m. on Thursday.Security agencies have not yet responded to inquiries regarding the attack.

However, Samson Zhakom, an army major and spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, stated that the incident is under investigation.

Plateau State University Registrar, Yakubu Ayuba, confirmed the death of the student in a statement, condemning the act as heartless. Ayuba identified the deceased student as Dading James Jordan, residing in Chikam.

Despite efforts by the Plateau State government, security agencies, the university’s management, and other stakeholders to enhance security in the area, the attack occurred, leading to the tragic loss of the student. Ayuba attributed the attack to enemies of the university and the state.
