2018 has been an incredible year for the African/Nigerian community, from art to fashion, tech and other scenes in the continent have seen incredible growth and massive attention from foreign media for their young, inspiring and innovative ideas.
Skepta, Grace Ladoja and Greatness Dex didn’t miss out on this with their second Homecoming event which was a three-day cultural affair involving music, fashion, skateboarding a live show, pop-up, and football. Beats 1‘s Julie Adenuga traveled to Lagos for this event, documenting it in a three-part series, Julie in Lagos.
The series includes scenes from the ‘Homecoming‘ concert with performances from Skepta, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage as well as UK “afroswing” pioneers like J Hus and Not3s, an interview with new talents and creatives game changers in Nigeria like Odunsi the Engine, Santi and Wavy the Creator. The series also captures the Nigerian jersey fever during the World Cup and explores the link between fashion and football.
The documentary helps to highlight the beauty being created in Nigeria through the provocative yet inspiring and expressive voices all around pioneered by the young kids who aren’t afraid to stand out and push the boundaries of African into a New Age.
