The Aliko Dangote Foundation Teams up With UNESCO and GBCHealth to Establish a New Health Care Initiative in Africa.

The Dangote Foundation; The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, [UNECA] and GBCHealth have teamed up to create and initiative called The African Coalition for Health, launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this week.

The initiative lead by GBCHealth is a coalition of companies and organizations committed to investing their resources to make a healthier world for their employees, for the communities in which they work and for the world at large.

The Africa Business Coalition for Health Forum aims to strengthen partnerships, promote an ongoing dialogue between the African private and public sectors, and foster opportunities for the private sector to contribute towards the collective efforts of key stakeholders in strengthening national health systems in Africa.

Addressing systemic health challenges is not something that a single company can do alone, but requires collaboration amongst many stakeholders who are accountable, share risks and experience.

The Africa Business: Health Forum 2019, which witnessed the launch of the official logo of the ABC Health. The platform  has the objective of driving business leadership, strengthening partnerships, and facilitating investments to change the face of healthcare in Africa.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who spoke at the conference, had this to say;

“The ECA has estimated a $66 billion per annum financing gap for healthcare in Africa. The public sector alone cannot cover this. There is a need for smart partnerships with the private sector and for their investments in pharmaceuticals, logistics, supply chain management capacity support, technology, innovation, and other areas. The Africa Business coalition encourages the private sector to invest, to partner and be a more effective part of the solution to the continent’s health challenges.”

Influential idividuals like Didier Drogba, Véra Songwe, Aig Imoukhuede, Halima Dangote, Zouera Youssoufou, Michel Sidibe, Joseph Muchera, Dere Awosika among others are also involved.
