The Nigerian fashion industry is getting a lot of attention for the burst of creativity currently, as more brands are emerging to push the par of what we wear, and the international scene is loving it, capturing every moment of it. Following our most recent article on the ‘Growth of African Streetwear‘ it’s no surprise to see Nigerian streetwear brands being spotlighted for their work on documenting the youth culture around them showing the emergence of a new taste in fashion.
WafflesNCream was the first brand to draw the international attention of publications like Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, and now Modus Vivendii is in the spotlight after bagging collaboration with Off-White & Nike for an exclusive jersey for the BBK pop-up, showcased a new collection during Arise Fashion Week. They’ve recently released a new capsule collection with Nigerian-British rapper’s fashion brand (WWW) What We Wear called ‘7 Days Till Lagos‘.
The vibrancy of the city is something I know well. I’m familiar with the textures, the colours, the energy – so I wanted to put that in this collection. – Tinie Tempah shared with GQ.
The new collection fuses the same design principles of WWW which is a combination of streetwear and sportswear with pieces like tracksuit bottoms, vests, hoodies and cargo trousers, and a fusion of Modus Vivendii’s staples which are based on freedom and a valiant use of bright colors, taking inspiration from Lagos, Nigeria through locally made fabrics like Aso Oke.
