It’s September, and global fashion weeks have gotten into gear, as we speak, New York Fashion Week is happening and there have already been some bold entrances. There has been some debate on the creation of an African edition of Vogue since Naomi Campbell’s visit to Lagos in April for Arise Fashion Week, after which she ignited the discourse;
“I feel like Africa, as a continent, is on the tip of explosion. It’s the next destination, and it needs a broader platform. I am going to help them get it. It’s more than overdue. There needs to be an African Vogue. It’s time.”
Naomi’s influence has swayed the overarching conversation making the fashion community expectant of radical changes in the African fashion environment’s future.
In the meantime, for the African gaze we’ve compiled a list of 8 African Fashion Weeks yet to happen in 2018, so keep a lookout this fashion week season for the indigenous brands and fashionistas.
