Burna Boy Faces Backlash After Removing Fans From Colorado Concert

Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu), a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer known for popularizing Afrobeats worldwide, a feat that earned him the name African Giant, is currently facing cancel culture and backlash from fans over his conduct at a recent concert.

On November 12th, 2025, Burna Boy asked a couple at an amphitheater in Colorado to leave his show because the woman was sleeping in the front row. He refused to continue the performance until the couple left the arena, escorted out by security.

The woman later shared her experience on social media, explaining that her daughter’s father had recently died and she attended the concert to lift her spirits.

Fans expressed anger and criticized Burna Boy for his behavior.

He later addressed the incident, arguing that artistes have the right to maintain decorum and comparing his actions to pilots deboarding or arresting passengers for non-compliance. He added that people attending his shows have battled cancer and other serious illnesses, yet none of them ever slept during his performance.

While Burna Boy’s response has caused a stir, this is not the first time he has displayed similar behavior. In 2019, during a concert in Atlanta, U.S., he asked an unimpressed fan to go home after refunding him in cash, then instructed security to escort the fan out.

On the 1st of January 2023, at the Love, Damini concert held at Eko Energy City in Lagos, the show was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Still, Burna Boy did not arrive until around 3 a.m., leaving fans frustrated after hours of waiting. When he eventually got on stage, he began lashing out at the crowd and claimed he only stayed to perform because Seyi Vibez convinced him to. He also referenced past criticisms, including accusations that he killed someone at Obi Cubana’s club and comments about his mother dancing for Fela Kuti. The incident sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans defending him while others expressed disappointment.

His controversial actions appear to have had tangible consequences. Reports indicated sparse attendance at his Houston show on November 22nd, 2025, following the cancellation of two other shows scheduled for November 28th and December 1st, 2025.

Afterward, Burna Boy began engaging in positive public actions, such as visiting the Boston Arts Academy on the 3rd of December 2025 in the U.S., where he pledged to fund students’ school fees annually.

He also set up a coffee stand at his Houston show. A gesture that took his fans by surprise.

On the 5th of December 2025, he offered to pay for the funeral of the victims of the Stockton mass shooting. He said he wants to support them in any way he can, as they begin their long process of healing.

In the end, great artists rise to fame because people consume the art they create. Burna Boy’s recent behaviour shows that the trust and respect of fans and consumers matter, because once that bond is broken, even the biggest stars can feel its impact.
