Applications are open for Love Island Nigeria, with a deadline of 14 November at loveislandnigeria.com. The show’s site lists it as Season 1 and says it will air on Soundcity, Spice, ONTV and digital platforms. The page doesn’t name a production company, give eligibility rules or give an air date.
Readers have asked whether there was ever a Nigerian version. There was an announcement. In June 2021, THISDAY reported that the first all-Black cast Love Island would debut in Nigeria that October, with 20 singles in a villa for seven weeks. Odiri Iwuji of Chudor House Production was the executive producer, and Digital Play Africa, owned by Toyin Subair, was bringing the show to Nigeria. The format is owned by ITV Studios.
By 31 October 2021, THISDAY reported that the show had not debuted, its website had no new updates and its last Instagram call for applications was dated 7 October.
MoreBranches found no report that the 2021 version aired, and no link between the 2021 organisers and the current one.
