The African movie industry is a hotspot for great visual content right now. A new wave Filmmakers are finding exciting, unorthodox approaches to tell more African stories.
These films are being accepted by the world wholeheartedly, foreign film festivals have seen a rise in African films submitted it’s no surprise then that the Best Foreign Language Film category at the next Oscars is reflecting this as well by having more representation and inclusion of African movies.
This year, there are 87 films vying for nominations in this category, nine of which are from Africa countries, which include first-time entrants, Malawi and Niger. Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2019.
