$B is frisky and exceptionally confident on ‘Better’.

British-Nigerian soul singer $B has just released his first single and video of the year titled ‘Better‘. The song is an adolescent emo-tune that is equal parts endearing and grating. ‘I see you do good but you could do better, that guy ain’t your man, cos you could do better girl,’$B sings in a monotonous tone most likely to a crush or an ex who’s moving on with a new lover.

The artist is enthralled in his expression of strong emotions, matching the blunt rawness of his lyrics. The simplicity of his singsong couplets is sufficient enough to wash away the groaning melodrama of a line like ‘You could do better girl, I know you better’, that it doesn’t take so long to stick in your skull.

The accompanying visuals directed by Sunnyboy Productions is a skittish version of the song’s narrative, as the artist is seen pulling up at spots to poke the love birds. He even went as far as pitching a ‘Me vs Your Man’ slide to the girl he can’t get his eyes off. It’s absorbing and refreshing to watch.
