Bandits have attacked a community in Niger State, setting fire to a church and a police station and abducting at least five residents, in the latest incident highlighting the worsening security situation in the state.
The attack happened in Agwara Local Government Area, where gunmen stormed the community, shot sporadically, and later burnt a church and the local police station. Residents said the attackers operated for hours with little resistance, forcing people to flee their homes in fear.

The burning of the police station raises concerns about the ability of security agencies to protect communities, especially in these rural areas that are left exposed.
Reports from residents describe the attack as sudden and terrifying. People ran into nearby bushes as gunmen moved freely through the area, setting buildings on fire and threatening anyone in sight. Many residents say they no longer feel safe returning home, fearing another attack.
