In the last few years, we’ve slowly begun to appreciate other sides other than the singer, musical creatives vary in the process of making music.
This change has helped give producers a more visible stance by releasing singles and projects under their names or as collaborators not relegated to the background or producer tag’s on songs but as co-artists with singers. This has seen the birth of various producer albums like Pheelz’s recent Hear Me Out EP and artists and producers collaboration projects from the 2019 Sarz and Wurld’s I Love Girls With Trobul to last year’s Mut4y and Elhi’s EU4RIA and a host of other tapes. Producers foray into singles and project releases have also been followed by DJs, who combine their skills of A&R and producing with their industry network and knowledge in finding and nurturing talents.
Evident from his first hit single Iskaba with Wande Coal to his more recent star-studded hit single Pami which featured Wizkid, Adekunle Gold and Omah Lay and the Olamide assisted Require, DJ Tunez has one of the best ears in the game when it comes to beat selection and working with artists. The last six months have seen him collaborate with various acts and work with House music producer/DJ D3AN to drop his debut project; Love Language Vol. 1, a five-track South African House EP with vocals from Efya, Onosz, and Siki.
Based in Brooklyn, J. Anthoni broke through last year, with his Jamaican patois infused cadence on the captivating afro-dancehall single, Differently and Bomb which showed his versatility as he delivered catchy melodic flows over the DJ Tunez and Blaise Beats afro-fused joint production. Both songs served as the lead singles to DJ Tunez’s follow-up project; a joint project with J Anthoni.
With production and A&R from DJ Tunez, providing breezy synth Caribbean harmonies, bounces, and drums, coupled with dancehall singer, J. Anthoni’s sweet patios heavy vocals and dancehall delivery, All You Need is a sensual project exploring themes of love, lust, sex, and relationships. The project paints a picture of dim-lited parties and dance floors with alcohol-driven lustful decisions.
