Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes The Most Followed Instagram User

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a new landmark outside the football pitch as he became the most followed individual on Instagram. The Juventus attacker is the first person ever to reach 250 million followers on the social media platform.

This record places Ronaldo, who follows only 458 people, ahead of arch-rival and second most followed sportsperson, Lionel Messi and third most followed sportsperson, Neymar. The only account which has more followers than Ronaldo on the platform is Instagram’s official account, which has 382 million followers.

Ronaldo is also the most followed person on Facebook and the most followed sportsperson on Twitter. The marksman earns nearly USD 1 million per sponsored post on Instagram according to Forbes.

In 2020, Ronaldo achieved a fresh milestone by having the most-liked photo on Instagram. The post was about Argentine legend Diego Maradona, following his death. It received 19.7 million likes.

Through his goalscoring exploits, Ronaldo has broken Pele’s domestic goalscoring record. Moving ahead of the Brazilian great after scoring his 758th. The portuguese record-breaking legend is now one goal away from exceeding the record of Czech Republic’s Josef Biscan who’s the highest goal-scoring footballer ever.

Recently, Ronaldo was nominated in FIFA’s Best Men’s Player award alongside Messi and Robert Lewandowski, which the Polish striker won for his incredible season with Bayern Munich.
