German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday morning alongside a German Business Delegation, ending her trip to three African countries, including Senegal and Ghana. Buhari and the German leader will attend a business roundtable where they will discuss efforts to encourage investments in the region. Prior to her talks with the president, Merkel met with Jean-Claude Brou, the president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which is headquartered in Nigeria. At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the German-African Business Association and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), and another agreement was also signed between the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) and Petkus Technologie GmbH.
Merkel is also expected to address the security situation in Nigeria, which has been grappling with terror attacks in the country’s north by the extremist group Boko Haram.
