ICYMI Music Round-Up – This Week Features 808Vic, Ob, & More.

The world’s going through trying times right now. From Nigeria’s government being in absolute shambles to America’s election crisis, we’re all on edge. It’s been a difficult few weeks of trying to #EndSARS, and the fight doesn’t stop.

That being said, sometimes we need a few moments to ourselves to relax and reflect, and even to let loose a little bit. Here are a few tunes to help you through these tough times we’re facing.

Video Games – 808Vic

Given the stressful month we’ve all had, relaxation is our best friend at the moment. And with Video Games, we’re able to do just that.

On this track, Vic sings over a lo-fi beat that wouldn’t sound too out of place on a 90sFlav beat tape, expressing his desire to get with a potential love interest. It’s one to listen to on a random summer day while reminiscing about lovers past.

!Go – Ob

Relationships, just like all things, must come to an end. And with all heartbreaks, there’s a period where we simply don’t care anymore. An emotional emancipation of sorts. !Go is the perfect track for such a time.

The song kicks off with relaxing piano chords, Ob’s first verse begins with the words “I didn’t wanna leave”, a feeling we know all too well. The song takes you through a range of emotions, from sadness and confusion, to a feeling of resolution. We’re reminded that while we all make mistakes, there’s a point where we just have to let go. It’s a bold statement for a first single, and proof of Ob’s potential.

Body Shame – Maradona

Having spent enough time wallowing in self reflection and sadness, we’re in desperate need of a tune to get us back in the groove. We’re in luck, because Body Shame is just the thing.

An instant party jam, Body Shame has a colourful opening with a backing organ just before the beat comes in. “show your crase” Maradona sings, something we definitely will be doing when parties are back in full swing. It’s the perfect song to catch whines at a houseparty, and have a good time with your friends.

Intentions – KC Freeley feat. Derrick

Another party starter, Intentions takes us right where we need to be: On the dance floor. It’s a high tempo bop sure to leave us sweating after an energetic dance number.

In his debut single, producer KC Freeley tags in singer Derrick, for this irresistible tune. Accompanied by a spirited sax, Derrick notes his devotion to a girl, promising to be there for her. Ever need a track to tell someone you want them? Cue Intentions.
