JRE Interview: I’m trying to express how I feel inside using melodies

Where does this interview find you?

It finds me on my bed scheming and playing some new stuff on repeat in my head.

How do you describe the kind of music you make?

One word I’d say is “satisfactory” other than that it’s me simply just trying to put out my emotions in tunes. I’m just trying to express how I feel inside using these melodies, it’s interesting and euphoric for me. Alte, Dancehall, Rnb and Soul. I’m quite dynamic with genres.

Growing up, was music always a big part of your life?

Right from time, it’s always been, I’ve been listening to a lot of music since I was a kid because my dad always bought CD plates then. He bought lots of music plates then somewhere those old school albums and mixes, local and foreign. I enjoyed listening to them as a kid, singing along and I always wondered what creating mine would l feel like.

As an artist, what part of the creation process would you say you thrive the most?

Every part is interesting to me. Listening to a new sound. Writing lyrics to a song. Then mixing a song, it’s very satisfactory to hear a song sounding very nice and just as beautiful as you imagined it to be in your head it’s spiritual actually. You can feel the sounds in your nerves and the mix of your song blending in. Creating such a piece from scratch is something to live for.

Is there some music that can quickly get you out of a bad mood?

Well certainly not sad music I mean, but music generally is vibratory and spiritual sound energy once you sync with the frequency you are tuned to the emotion and you are good to go. One I’ll say is “Nights” by Frank Ocean.

Tell us a bit about how “Fever” came together?

First of all big shouts out to @SmusQweed the producer of the beat. I first found the beat on YouTube, when I played it for the first time, it sounded really nice, I couldn’t stop listening, it had a unique sound and then I started writing lyrics. The first time I liked how it sounded so I didn’t stop till I was done and I recorded it immediately and started mixing. It was totally a vibe so I sent the file to TeddyWestsideVF, a dope ass producer from the B side, to complete the mixing after I was done with mine and that was how “Fever” was created.

What do you hope fans take away from your music?

I hope they enjoy every single bit of it and it’s something that anytime they play, energy is renewed.

In terms of your artistry, do you think How has your artistic approach this year changed from last year?

This year I’m sharing more of my music with the world. Sharing more of my creations and becoming a little less introverted.

Who are you looking forward to collaborating with?

A lot of artists both Foreign and Home. Wizkid, Davido, Omah lay, Rema, Buju, Blaqbonez, Ruger, Layzee Ella, Psycho YP, Alpha P, Santi, Odunsi. 6lack, Frank Ocean, Bryson Tiller, Drake, Kendrick Lamar. And many more I’d love to work with all these artists.

What are you most excited about in the near future?

Working with new people and making an impact in the industry. Becoming a very big artist both here and abroad with an award-winning sound special and unique to only me.
