The New York City Marathon an annual marathon (42.195 km or 26.219 mi) that courses through the five boroughs of New York City and is the largest marathon in the world held this year’s edition on Sunday. Mary Keitany of Kenya and Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia took home the top prizes at this year’s New York City Marathon.
In the women’s race, Kenyan runner Mary Keitany, who turned 36 this year, became the third person to win the NYC marathon four times, according to The New York Times. She ran the course in 2:22:48, the second fastest time for a female runner in NYC marathon history. Her winning streak started in 2011, she also set a world record that has yet to be broken at the 2017 London Marathon. She’s definitely one of the greatest in her field.
“The pace of New York is not like other races, for me, it was not necessary to start (fast) at the beginning. It was OK. I didn’t want to rush at the beginning. I wanted to be comfortable throughout the race.”, Keitany said.
