We’re in the second month of the year (some people are just kicking off the year because we have to consider ignoring January’s existence) and we just want to make sure you are tuned in to all of the right music as we go again this February.
So here’s a guide through a fortnight of good music because we don’t play games (see what I did there?)
Runtown – Body Riddim (Feat. Darkovibes & Bella Shmurda)
Runtown is back with a Del B produced banger that appeals to the Zanku wave and still has the signature Soundgod feel. Runtown delivers an infectious hook at the start of the song that puts you in the right mood and maybe even on your feet from the jump.

KD – Mary Jane (feat. MMA Boys)
Producer, audio engineer and song writer with production credits on songs such as 234jaydaa’s Pink kicks 2020 off with a sultry single packed with good vibes and cheeky innuendos here and there. With all of the sound credits going to this multi talented creative, it’s hard to not love this piece.

Mr Eazi – Kpalanga
Mr Eazi, our lowkey superstar, kicks off 2020 with a Killertunes jam that starts with a grand opening that switches quickly into a sweet Afro Pop melody on the weekend of his 3rd anniversary with his girlfriend. Kpalanga is a fun song that sounds like a promise of dedication to a lover as Eazi croons “If you want, I go cry you a river”. But don’t let me sing the whole thing.
Omagz – 229 Friday, Vol. 2 EP
Multi-faceted, super talented, as far back as the features on Santi’s “Suzie’s Funeral” and Genio Bambino’s “Virtuoso” Omagz comes out of retirement with the second installment of the 229 Friday Series (we really hope he keeps them coming). The Singer-Songwriter and Rapper feeds the fans with this super smooth 4-Track EP that touches on Love, his journey, relationships, the industry and personal growth with genre fluid sounds from Afro Pop to Trapsoul. A joy to listen to in its entirety.

Blaq Jerzee & Wizkid – Arizona
Blaq Jerzee is back collaborating with Wizkid and the chemistry is still very powerful. On this new song they make a stoner anthem pledging allegiance to Kalakuta and Arizona. It’s a complete jam this one. But don’t just take my word for it, stream the video for “Arizona” above.
Sosa-E – Confam
Not a single miss since I started following up on his music a year ago and upcoming hip-hop musician strikes gold again with this banger with hard bars, full confidence and a slightly comic back story.

Blackmagic – Blackmagic Version 3.0 (The Starving Artist)
Ejay’s return to the scene is more solemn than one would ever expect from the Singer-Songwriter and Rapper who is a veteran in the employment of alternative sounds. The very Introspective Starving Artist is the 3rd installment in the Blackmagic series (which we have not received from since version 2 came out in 2012). The tape centers on struggle, relationships, self sufficiency and an overall comeback. There are moments on it that did not feel fully fleshed out but altogether it is a solid body of work. My favorite picks are Soon, Ponmo, Strong Man and Everything. You might want a taste of the whole thing before you make your picks.

Yung L – Juice & Zimm
Mr Marley is back on deck! This 7 track project shows some sort of a glimpse into the Reggae & Dancehall mastermind’s world and he promises so much more. My favorite tracks are the opener, “No Worries”, the Vanessa Mdee assisted “Too Much” and “Ready” that features Tay Iwar and Sarkodie (although I do believe that Sark was slightly overbearing).

$ey – Dream$
After leaving the music scene for a few years, Kumasi based Songwriter, Rapper and Producer returns with the single titled ‘Dream$‘, a banger filled to the brim with positive reinforcement for listeners to follow their heart.
With a delivery that you have to love, here’s Dream$
EMO Grae & Buju – 0903
In the zone like Kagame (apologies to the non anime heads), Buju is on a straight run for the crown. Hit after Hit after Hit and he’s back collaborating with a fan and artiste, EMO Grae who told him his music saved him from depression. They will be working on a project together as Buju promises but this is just a taste of what to expect.

Johnson IP – Straight to the Moon (feat. Manuel Cole)
Super producer, Johnson with a CV that has placements on songs with high profile artistes like PsychoYP is out with the lead single from his upcoming Jungle EP. Supported by a stellar performance from frequent collaborator Manuel Cole everything about this song is a flex.
