Following the February 23 Presidential election in Nigeria, Professor Yakubu of Independent National Electoral Commission has announced President Muhammadu Buhari as president-elect, after final collation of results in Abuja. President Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (winning in 19 of the states, after the result of Rivers was appended). His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 10,782, 007 votes, winning 17 states and Abuja. Buhari also satisfied the constitutional requirement of claiming 25 per cent in 34 states and the FCT except Enugu and Anambra states.

In 2015, M.Buhari scored 15,424,921 votes to beat the former president Goodluck Jonathan who scored 12,853,162 votes. Muhammadu Buhari is officially the second person to win a second term since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999.

He’s also the third person EVER to be re-elected president, after Shehu Shagari and Olusegun Obasanjo.

At a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, the Deputy Director General of the party’s presidential campaign organisation, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), called for an immediate halt of the collation of results until data from the smart card reader accreditation at the polling units are made available to all the parties involved in the election. He also stated that the party had evidence of the manipulation of the card readers to rig the election in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
