Odunsi (The Engine) explores new sonic terrain in his single “Half A Tab,” a kaleidoscopic exploration of provocative lyrics, lush basslines, and hypnotic synths. The Lagos native simulates the psychedelic experience in his unique take on R&B, with the disorienting vocal processing emphasizing the effortless swagger in the Nigerian artist’s crooning. “Half A Tab” marks the first single off of Odunsi’s upcoming sophomore album. An amalgamation of his musical and visual influences, the immersive nature of his new music is realised in his mesmerising song.
On the new single, Odunsi says, “I made this song three years ago when I started playing more with my voice, it’s a lot of detail and new discovery with each listen.”
The single precedes the accompanying short film for “Half A Tab,” co-directed by Odunsi (The Engine) and filmmaker Ben Cole. Set to premiere at film house Imax Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria on single release day, the “Half A Tab” short film will then screen virtually in different cities from November 21st with the full length available to the public on November 26th.
