Some worshippers have been rescued following a bandit attack on an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) congregation in Kwara State, while several others remain in captivity.

The attack occurred during a church service when gunmen reportedly stormed the premises and abducted worshippers. In the immediate aftermath, at least three victims were rescued, according to updates from security sources.

Church authorities confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers disrupted the service and took multiple congregants away. A statement from the church council described the attack as part of a series of security incidents affecting the area, involving both kidnappings and killings.

Despite the initial rescue, the number of abducted worshippers remains unclear, with reports indicating that several individuals are still being held by the attackers. Families of the victims are awaiting further updates as efforts to secure their release continue.

Security agencies have launched operations in response to the attack. Officials say measures have been put in place to locate the abductors and facilitate the safe return of those still in captivity.

The Kwara incident adds to a series of abductions reported in different parts of the country, including attacks on communities and places of worship. Authorities have not yet provided a timeline for when the remaining victims may be rescued.
