Telecoms network Airtel Launches Airtel TV

In the last few years we’ve seen a lot of companies hop into the media/content space in a bid to get more customers on board. Through shows, festivals, video content, brands in different spaces have extended their tentacles into the content realm typically by creating a sub-division dedicated to this mission.

We’ve seen it happen most recently in the banking world with GTB, Access, UBA, Zenith, all with their own content division that allows the banks do other things to lure more customers into their banking halls.

The Telecoms sector is following suit with Airtel leading the charge. The Telecoms giant recently launched its video streaming app, AirtelTV. The app is currently available for download and expected to be a one-stop platform for all visuals including music videos, news, sports and live TV.

Airtel TV will come with no subscription fee but will be available only to Airtel registered users across the country.

In addition to the VOD service, Airtel TV will offer live TV across popular channels including Bloomberg, Trace (Urban, Africa, Mziki, Tropical, Gospel and Sport Stars), Gametoon, Fashion Box, Bollywood, Nautical, God TV, Inspiration TV and Al Jazeera, among others.

The television app, which is available on Android and iOS, is subscription-free and offers registered users unlimited access to the entire Airtel TV content library as well as enables them stream different content categories on the robust 4G network — Airtel Nigeria Chief Commercial Officer, Dinesh Balsingh

Airtel believe AirtelTV will attract more internet subscribers for Airtel broadband.
