The Girls Are Coming: How Femme Fest 2021 plans to re-write history with an all female-lineup festival

Ayra Starr, Teni Entertainer and Lady Donli are set to headline the upcoming festival in December dedicated to celebrating female talent and artistry.

On December 12th 2021 at the Amore Gardens, Lekki, music superstars Ayra Starr, Teni Entertainer and Lady Donli will headline at Femme Fest– an all-female lineup festival. Presented by Femme Africa, a women-led organization committed to breaking down gender-based barriers in the music industry, Femme Fest aims to showcase the skill, range and depth of female artistry. The festival, powered by Platform Capital, Diatom Impact and Unicorn, and supported by Lipton, LIRS and Red TV, promises to be a day of music, shopping and food.

Since 2018, Femme Africa has successfully curated an all-female multi-genre musical concert known as ‘The Showcase’, hosted to an audience of music industry influencers, tastemakers and fans. ‘The Showcase’ served as a platform to amplify female talent and provide concertgoers to discover up-and-coming artists that were quickly on the rise. Past performances at ‘The Showcase’ include Tems (2018 & 2019), Lady Donli (2019) and Efe Oraka (2020).

In addition to ‘The Showcase’, in May 2021, Femme Africa was 1 of 15 organizations invited to join Spotify’s Equal Board in its “commitment to fostering equity for women in audio and celebrating their global contributions”.

This year, on the 12th of December, Femme Africa will expand the vision of ‘The Showcase’ to create an immersive space for the celebration and artistic expression of women that is Femme Fest, which will take place at Amore Gardens, Lekki. It will bring together an all-female lineup starring: Ayra Starr, Teni Entertainer, Lady Donli, Efya, Fave, Liya, Ria Sean, Wavy The Creator, Bella Alubo, Deto Black, SGaWD, Tomi Owo, Eziemela, Somadina, Solis and Merry-Lyn. Femme Fest will also have an all-female Dj lineup featuring Dj Honeeay, Dj Dayzee and DJ Sensei Lo and will be hosted by Tomike Adeoye and Valerie Ike. Attendees at the festival will also have the opportunity to exclusively shop from female-owned brands at the Vendor Village.

“Since December 2018, Femme Africa has had a simple goal: to amplify the voices of women. Femme Fest is the perfect way for us achieve this whilst giving people a great time. We are super proud of the work we have done over the last three years and can not wait for everyone to see what Femme Fest has in store!” – Ayomide Dokunmu. Founder FEMME AFRICA

At a time where a global reckoning is long-overdue on the current state of low representation and visibility of women in the creative scene, Femme Fest is leading the charge in Nigeria to create a more diverse entertainment industry. Not only does the festival promise stellar performances from an all-female lineup, it also aims to deliver on an eclectic selection of sounds.
