The Swift Ascendant Lands in Abuja: A Monumental Journey of Audacity Reaches the Federal Capital Territory

//

Following its debut in Lagos, The Swift Ascendant has arrived in Abuja as part of a travelling public art journey exploring movement, reinvention, and contemporary creative expression.

The 14-foot installation is a sculptural interpretation of the Swift, a symbol associated with motion and transformation. Through this work, the idea of the “Standout Swift” is reflected as a broader metaphor for ambition and personal evolution.

In Abuja, the installation was presented at Fuego, where it was experienced within a curated cultural setting that brought together music, spatial design, and visual art. The presentation positioned the work within the city’s growing creative and nightlife landscape, encouraging a more immersive encounter with public art.

Created in collaboration with Nigerian artist Dotun Popoola, the piece is constructed entirely from discarded and recycled metal. The material approach underscores themes of reuse and transformation, reframing industrial remnants into a large-scale sculptural form.

The installation continues its movement through Abuja as an evolving public encounter, inviting audiences to experience it within the flow of the city rather than in a fixed gallery context.
