Urban Yam Festival is having its first edition in Lagos, this August.

If you’re reading this, there’s a very high chance you’ve been dreaming of attending a yam festival lately, maybe because you really do love pounded yam, could be that you’re tired of the regular yam and egg dish or you’re trying to figure out what Yamarita is. Whatever the case may be, there’s one reason to be happy, The Lucid Company and Visual NG are teaming up to create the first Urban Yam Festival in the city of Lagos. The festival is a fresh take on the traditionally celebrated new yam festival.

‘In an era where it is now cool to be African, preserving our culture and creating value that is locally relevant is an important part of telling the New-Age Africa story’.

This event hopes to give Nigerian Youth a locally relevant festival to own and be proud of. It is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 31st of August, 2019 with yam dishes specially made by 7 food vendors on full display. Entry to the event will be free, but people will have to pay to taste the food in mini-portions or meal portions from any vendors of their choice. Also free oalmwime will be served, so no more excuses.

THE YAMIFESTO

Inspired by our culture and our love for food, we have created an experience that unites us all through one common festival celebrated traditionally in different parts of Nigeria. But unlike festivals of old, the urban yam fest celebrates the beauty in our diversity, cutting all tribes with a renewed approach curated by the Nigerian youth for the Nigerian youth today. So come with an open heart and an empty stomach as we take a step to push urban Nigeria culture forward.
