It’s so damn easy to give up when it looks like something is not working out the way you want it to or the way you think it should. That being said, the passion to go extra miles is what I respect Deelokz for, his new song “Neon Lights” sees him taking a walk out of his comfort zone but he still does a decent job.
He does not walk alone here, a guest appearance by David Ibeh gives the song a necessary balance. The song isn’t a shit record but at the same time, I’m also not wowed. In my opinion, the hook isn’t juicy enough but being the dope lyricist he his, he makes up for this with his verse, whatever led to the decision of a guest feature was a smart one. For the first time, I’m introduced to David and he shines here. His flow switches how the song is felt on some more life shit. Lyrically, ‘Neon Lights‘ is bright enough but being a long time Deelokz fan, this isn’t it but it’s ok. This is the third single off the soon to be released Vinyl Plays EP, so I’m eager to see the big picture and understand better how this record fits in the grand scheme of things.
Neon Lights shows bravery and growth if you’ve known Deelokz for a while. Here’s a passionate dude that’s based in Akure, Ondo state but still manages to be part of the conversation when you talk about backpack artistry. You can check out ‘Gramophone Record‘ and ‘Friends That Are Family‘, the two previous singles from his forthcoming EP, the former has a video.
