This is probably my best New Age song out right now, and I mean New Age as an era, not a genre. It’s my first proper listen to a District jam and it’s perfect, especially if timing is truly everything.
The sampled vocal intro readies you for the experience and tells you subtly that things are different now. It felt like a General was motivating his troops for a battle that was a few minutes away. After the pep talk ends, Fuga starts rapping and you can’t help but get jiggy, the bars are braggadocios but not in an empty manner, it feels substantial and you can tell that the “battle’ was won, so this is celebration. At the end of the first verse, Psycho Yung Papi is the fun guy that’s here to kick it with the homie and I’m reminded not to ever musically box any artist.
If it was a party before, now you’re raving and wanting to go all out. Moyo Fuga, the self-proclaimed only white guy out in Lagos doesn’t dull the mood, the energy is gang gang solid. This track is a “I’m back and better” statement by Moyo Fuga and it’s eloquent as fuck. The production is cool, fresh, invigorating and it was done by Moyo Fuga himself . If I could change anything, I’ll add a Psycho YP verse.
The Lagos, white District boy, recently tweeted something about giving his music a chance, so hopefully this changes things positively from a clout perspective. Okay District, I want the damn tape already but I’ll wait if I have to because this shows it’ll be worth it.
