Prior to Aye I hadn’t heard Olù’s previous work, ‘The Cry‘ her first single, so I didn’t know what to expect pressing play. After about 8 minutes spent listening to the two sets I became a believer and she certainly caught my attention. She gives off [ so many Asa vibes, I know that’s a pretty conclusive judgement after a first listen ] but I heard what I heard, she also sounds like a perfectionist with the music which is exactly how it should be. I hope you get to enjoy the music and Feel the Vibrations she sends your way.

The first thought that comes to mind after hearing the first 30 seconds of this song is ‘FELA+AFROBEAT‘, I mean Fela’s standard of AFROBEATS. She starts singing around the 40 second mark and her vocals are soothing on this complex beat, she sings of Life (AYE), love, living in the moment and she executes it perfectly. I’m going to be honest and say this is the first Olú project I’ve ever listened to but I love what I’ve heard so far [ definitely going to check out her other tracks ]. I haven’t heard this kind of Afrobeats song in a few, another highlight of the song is it’s production, the drums are epic, they sound like they were taken from a Yoruba Playlet in the 80s. I would really love to see the production credits on this song. All I can say at this point is simply brilliant. The whole concept is a bold one and it was perfectly executed, because it could have easily been a miss but it wasn’t.

Wow, I mean how mind blowing can this experience get ? This is already my favorite set of the song and I haven’t been listening for up to a minute. Her tone is more subtle in this part, there is also a huge difference in production, there aren’t any of the talking drums that make the first one an AFROBEAT masterpiece, but this doesn’t make this part of the set any less exciting, you can effortlessly hear the lyrics of the track, [ almost the same with the first but with a little more sway ]. She sings about the same subject matter AYE ( Life) and living in the moment. The most interesting part of this set is how the artiste (Olù) expresses herself without using a lot of lyrics, merely by the tone of her voice and changing the instrumental.
This is definitely not going to be my last listen and I’m sure going to enjoy watching her grow into the artiste she wants to become. I’m feeling the Vibration and I hope you are too.
