A devastating attack was carried out on a church in Eruku, Kwara State, Nigeria, on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025. In a video widely circulated on X, the incident occurred at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun, where terrorists stormed the church during a service, killing three worshippers and abducting the pastor and several others.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived at the church around 6:30 pm, firing sporadically and causing panic among the worshippers. Three people were killed instantly, and several others were taken captive, including the pastor. A vigilante, Segun Alaja, sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and was rushed to ECWA Hospital in Eruku for treatment.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that two people were killed, and one person sustained serious injuries. The police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Eruku and his team, working in conjunction with local vigilantes, swiftly responded to the sound of gunshots, prompting the attackers to flee into the bush.
The attack has sparked widespread fear and concern in the community, with residents calling for increased security measures to prevent future attacks. The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Kwara State Chapter, condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric” and “a direct affront to the constitutional right to life, dignity, and freedom of worship”.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has also condemned the attack, requesting an additional security deployment to the area to prevent further attacks. The governor expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and prayed for the safe return of the abducted worshippers.
Several Nigerians have also responded to this event, with many reiterating that there needs to be a thorough investigation into the targeting of Christians, the state of the government and religiously motivated attacks.
