Bella Shmurda is without any doubt one of the most iconic figures in contemporary Nigerian music. It’s no surprise the Dangbana Republik figurehead chose to run with the ’New Born Fela’ tag for the single off his highly anticipated debut album ‘HYPERTENSION’.

‘New Born Fela’  is an ode to Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the continent’s biggest musical export and a highly certified rebel before the 2000s. Bella is also vividly aware that times are indeed tough but he emphasises that the stress isn’t enough to quench his charged-up battery. In the new video directed by TG Omori, he is reliving memories of one of fascinating memories from Fela’s legacy — the story of how he married 27 wives in one day.

Back in 1978, it was reported that the musical maestro had asked all the ladies in his band if they wanted to marry him, of which 27 of them agreed. On the track Shmurda is in affirmative with the critics who see him as a revolter but has chosen to embrace his eccentricity in full glory.
