#BestNewMusic: Simi softly addresses social issues on “Woman,” Timaya and Buju’s soft linkup + Funbi, Falana & more

Simi‘s latest track “Woman” draws on Afrobeat to speak on some of the pressures society puts on women, leading to this, she started a campaign on her Instagram showing the unsavory comments that even “well-known” women face on a daily basis. Timaya and Buju linked up to create a soft jam and a TG-Omori-directed video to boot, definitely a favorite. Sarkodie, Zlatan & Rexxie came together on opulence-celebrating “VIP,” and some other notable releases came from Funbi, Falana, PrettyBoy D-O, Savage, BadboyTimz, Idahams, Noir & SGaWD.

Friday has become the de-facto release day in the music industry, a plethora of tracks vie to become the soundtrack of that weekend and beyond. Sifting through it all every Friday morning can be overwhelming for many listeners, so every week we compile some highlights.
