The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria three points and three goals following Libya’s failure to appear for a recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced that a detailed investigation is underway after controversy surrounding Nigeria’s qualifier against Libya. Motsepe emphasized that CAF upholds fair play and will not permit unsportsmanlike conduct in African football.
In a statement issued Saturday, CAF’s Disciplinary Board Chairperson Ousmane Kane confirmed the decision to grant Nigeria the points. The decision followed a review by the disciplinary committee, which investigated the circumstances of the Libya-Nigeria match.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board also issued a fine to the Libyan Football Federation in response to Nigeria’s disrupted game.
