Chillhop Music presents the first edition of its new Timezones compilation series, a new initiative that aims to honor regional music cultures with accuracy and depth, while sparking global connections and fostering thoughtful cross-cultural exchange.
The first entry in the Timezones series is focused on Nigeria, a country whose influence on modern music cannot be overstated. The 22-track compilation is split between two formats. One is driven purely by a lineup of some of the most prominent Nigerian producers, offering a representation of the country’s contemporary music through a chill, instrumental lens.
And then, 11 collaborative tracks between Chillhop-affiliated artists and Nigerian musicians are scattered across the tracklist, bridging two musical styles while ensuring that the Nigerian sound remains dominant. The goal is not to fit Nigerian music into a pre-existing mold, but to create a project where its essence remains intact, yet grows into a new, untapped and innovative direction, with Chillhop and its Western artists acting as guests within Nigerian culture.
Among the artists featured are widely celebrated Nigerian producers such, as Grammy-nominated artists Louddaaa (Ayra Starr, Giveon, Lojay, Simi), Le Mav (CKay, PinkPantheress), and Nsikak David (Tems, Show Dem Camp, Rema), alongside ARIEENATI (DaBaby, Ckay, Odeal), Yinka Bernie (Amaarae & Kali Uchis, Dave & Ayra Starr), and Sholz (Cordae, 070Shake, Bloody Civilian). Additional Nigerian stars include Dunnie, Lady Donli,, Suté Iwar, Yimeeka and more. Chillhop affiliated artists include Ruck P (CRO, Cypress Hill), Molly McPhaul, DESH, Kreatev, Ian Ewing, and chromo, the dreamer.

To ensure that Timezones Nigeria reflects the depth and nuance of the country’s music and visual culture, a Nigerian illustrator and visual artist has been responsible for crafting the project’s identity, drawing from local traditions and contemporary movements. A Nigerian cultural advisor has also provided guidance throughout the process, ensuring that every creative and logistical decision is made with cultural awareness and respect.
The final visual and auditory result offers a small window into a living, evolving musical landscape, honoring Nigeria’s instrumental music scene in a way that reflects its true complexity, innovation, and depth. It’s an opportunity for listeners to engage with Nigerian artistry, providing fans of sounds like Alté, Afrobeats, and Highlife with a unique, fresh perspective, while urging the less experienced to start exploring these genres with intention.
This is just the beginning of a long-term initiative. Future volumes will continue to honor regional music cultures, offering a global audience a deeper, more nuanced understanding of instrumental traditions worldwide.
