D-truce and TylerRiddim’s ‘The Backbenchers’ is an ode to fun high school memories and sneakers too

A few days ago, I was invited to a private listening session of ‘The Backbenchers’, a joint EP by D-Truce and TylerRiddim at the Aristokrat records office. There, the duo played us all the five songs from the recently released project and just before I mention that I loved every track, it’s necessary that I point out the great chemistry that both artistes share, it’s the reason why they can make good music after returning from all the euphoria at the last Gidifest. D-Truce and TylerRiddim are two childhood friends with stories to tell as they come together to create a unique blend of Afro-fusion and Hip Hop, on this 5 song EP produced by DJ Xtreme and Jay Blakez.

The duo draw inspiration from their home town; Isolo, weaving joint experiences from their school which they lived through in over 10 years of sitting next to each other at the back of every class they were in. The initial letters in the name of each track on The Backbenchers Vol. 1 spell out ‘kicks’ and it is a reference to their obsession with sneakers growing up. For me, Sketchers is my favorite; you’ve free weekend music to groove to, don’t forget to share.
