Ethiopian distance running sensation Yomif Kejelcha has shattered the men’s half-marathon world record by a mere second. Kejelcha clocked a stunning time of 57 minutes and 30 seconds at the Valencia Half-Marathon on Sunday, surpassing the previous record held by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo.
The 26-year-old Ethiopian, a former world championship silver medalist in the 10,000 meters, has continued to impress with his exceptional performances. He previously held the world indoor mile record.
While Kejelcha’s record is subject to ratification by World Athletics, it marks another significant milestone in the world of distance running. The Valencia Half-Marathon has consistently produced world-class performances, with both Kiplimo and Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie setting world records in recent years.
On the women’s side, Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich narrowly missed breaking the world record, finishing 11 seconds shy of Letesenbet Gidey’s mark. Nevertheless, Ngetich’s performance was impressive, especially considering it was her first-ever half-marathon.
