We woke up this Wednesday morning to sad news about the death of Fahim Saleh —a 33 year old American tech entrepreneur born to Bangladeshi parents. Before confounding Gokada in 2018, Fahim was already known for launching apps and startups that have grossed millions of dollars in revenue and funding, notably his investments in Pathao and Picap, two motorcycle ride sharing companies similar to Gokada in Columbia and his home country Bangladesh.
In a few months, Gokada grew to become one of the most downloaded and used apps in Nigeria, facilitating millions of rides and empowering thousands of riders in Lagos, a city notoriously known for traffic, not enough roads and unemployment.
Fahim’s body was found headless and dismembered in his Manhattan luxury condo which he recently acquired for $2.2 million last December according to the DailyMailUk.
His sister, who felt worried after not hearing from him for days and decided to check in on him found his limbless, headless torso and other parts sorted into several plastic bags and an electric saw lying next to his remains.
The NYPD say they have set their hands on a surveillance footage of the suspect entering into the same elevator with Saleh. He was dressed in a suit and a mask and gloves with a suitcase.
As the door opened directly into Saleh‘s apartment, he was seen to have fallen to the floor immediately from a possible hit or gunshot.
The Bentley University graduate and venture capitalist is described as a happy and coolheaded fellow by those who knew him while he was alive. He is known for being very adventurous and passionate about building new things.
Hussein M Elius, who co-founded Pathao with Saleh, told Bangladesh’s Daily Star newspaper: “Fahim believed in the potential for technology to transform lives in Bangladesh and beyond. He saw the promise in us when all we had was a common purpose and a shared vision. He was, and will forever remain, an incredible inspiration for Pathao and our entire ecosystem.”
Gokada aslso described Saleh as “a great leader, inspiration and positive light for all of us” in its tribute posted via twitter. .
