The Skate-culture brand WafflesNCreams has been pioneering a new culture for the last 15 years, bringing a culture that has never existed before to the mainstream. A culture that’s based on exploring boundaries that put the voice of the youths and creative freedom on the frontiers of all their exploits, it might seem like just a bunch of kids skating but with their push for more expressed through their brand and love for streetwear and their own personal clothing brand they’ve attracted creatives from all fields to embrace their youth once more. Bridging the gap between Lagos and the global world through their exposure on international media and collaborations with brands like Nike, RedBull, Alara Lagos, BBK & Converse they’ve not only made a valid identity for the young Lagos economy of creatives and innovators, they’ve also made it a real idea that exists within everyone amongst the new paradigms being shited across Africa to shoot their shot as a creative collective or company.
In pushing the Skate Board Culture forward, WafflesNCreams has had multiple offline events that engage the world of the youths more directly and they’ve done this best with their Annual Go-Skate Day which started last year. This year it was much bigger, with a larger turnout showing how much the skate community and youth culture has expanded in the last year. We created a Visual Essay Titled ‘Èkò For Show‘ through visual essay and a short film to not only document but show a side of a vibrant youth scene of skaters, creatives, dreamers all finding themselves under one community for a day with the board, rain, and energy.
This year’s Go-Skate Day was hosted at Upbeat Center, Lagos Nigeria.
