Lagos-based visual artist King Uranta will present his debut solo exhibition, Chromatic Odyssey, at Amah Studio in Lagos Island. This exhibition depicts a vividly surreal journey from conception through childhood innocence, the fiery search for meaning, and the quiet reconciliation of later life.
King Uranta is a self-taught visual artist and designer based in Lagos, Nigeria. Grounded in a professional graphic design background, his practice expanded into 3D composition and animation in 2019, and continues to evolve through an ongoing exploration of photography and design. For King, these varying mediums are tools to articulate the psychological weight and complexity of life.
Chromatic Odyssey is an exhibition chronicling life with renderings of surreal landscapes bathed in saturated primary colors. Each landscape and color corresponds to a distinct phase of life.
The four stages – Achromatic, Yellow, Red, and Blue form a progression through the long, uneven journey of the human experience.
Achromatic opens the exhibition in a colorless, unformed world, the beginning of existence, before identity or meaning takes shape.
Yellow follows with the warmth and naivety of childhood, a fleeting innocence rendered in soft, bright tones.
Red marks the volatility of becoming: ambition, desire, and the often violent process of forging an identity capable of surviving the world.
Blue closes the progression in stillness, the cooling of earlier heat into wisdom, self-knowledge, and reconciliation with life’s passage.
The exhibition’s final note is melancholic, an acknowledgment that, like color itself, life inevitably fades.
“It reflects the universal journey from the protected children we once were, to the complex people the world demands we become, and finally, the peace we hope to find at the end of it all,” King says of the work.
Rooted in his experience and observations as an artist born and bred in Nigeria, King built the series using 3D rendering and digital compositing tools, translating an intensely personal narrative arc into surreal, saturated landscapes. The exhibition also marks King’s debut as a solo exhibiting artist following group appearances at Art Dubai, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art X Lagos’s Art X Live, and exhibitions in New York, Tunisia, and Hong Kong.
