Listen To OG Caesar’s Catchy New Single, ‘Toys’

OG Caesar has come a long way from his early days on the rap scene. From his late 2016 debut, ‘All Winter’, the Lagos/London/Brighton based artist steadily progressed with multiple single releases over the course of 2017 up until the release of this debut album. A blend of intense rock and electronic music influences, his 2018 debut project, Queen, undoubtedly illustrates his artistry at its finest. Now back with a new single, Caesar teams up with producer, Jeremiah Cartier, to deliver a catchy bop highlighted with Caesar’s signature melodic trap soundscape.

Caesar’s music is heavily laced with inspirations from women and relationships, and ‘Toys’ is no different. The track finds the artist rapping about being an emotional punching bag in past relationships, ‘Shawty tried to break me and put me back together/I am not a toy’.

Seemingly taking a lesson out of Pi’erre Bourne and Koji Kondo’s books, Cartier shoots us with tasteful injections of sonic nostalgia as he layers thumping 808s and fluttering hi-hats over a looped video-game/ice cream truck sample, providing a nicely dense listen.
