Zimbabwe will hold it’s first election since the outing of Mugabe through a military coup November last year. The election which will hold July 30 was announced by the current interim President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
I am delighted to proclaim July 30 as the date for the 2018 harmonised elections.
These elections will be free, fair and transparent, and the voice of the people will be heard.
I call on all candidates to campaign peacefully and focus on the issues that really matter.

What unites us as Zimbabweans is far greater than anything that could ever divide us.

I look forward to engaging with my fellow citizens on the campaign trail.

“The Zimbabwe election commission is hereby advised to fix Monday the 30th of July as the day of the election of the office of president, the election of members of the house of assembly and election of councilors,” Mnangagwa said.
- This will be the first time Mugabe’s name will not be on the voting ballot.
- A runoff will be held on September 8 if none of the presidential candidates wins an outright majority.
- More than five million of Zimbabwe’s 13 million people have registered to vote.
- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s main opponent is Nelson Chamisa, 40, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.
This is great for the younger generation of Zimbabwe who’ll have the chance to experience a new government other than dictator Mugabe who destroyed the economy and social value of the country.
