Nigeria and Ghana risk suspension from international football by FIFA

FIFA has issued ultimatums to Nigeria and Ghana that they will both face bans from global football for “undue influence” on Tuesday over outside interference in their football associations. In a statement by the football giant, the two federations had been notified about the misconducts and the consequences earlier. Now both countries risk being suspended from international football if they fail to comply with Fifa’s instructions by Monday.

The NFF President thinks the issues in Nigeria come after a recent court case recognized Chris Giwa, who is currently serving five-year ban by FIFA, Giwa has been protesting the result of elections held in September 2014 that saw Amaju Pinnick installed as NFF president. FIFA says Nigeria’s ban could be immediate if the Nigeria Football Federation “offices are not handed back to the legitimate NFF executive committee under president Amaju Pinnick, whose four-year term ends in few months. However,  any ban would not affect Nigeria’s ongoing participation at the Women’s Under-20 World Cup in France.

For Ghana, the country must withdraw a high court petition by the attorney general to have the football association “liquidated” by August 27 or be banned. BBC adds the case came in lieu of widespread corruption allegations like the viral documentaries we saw. A global ban would put Ghana’s 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya on 8 September in doubt, Nigeria’s Super Eagles is due to travel to face Seychelles the same weekend.
