Virgil Abloh, Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton and former Creative Director for Kanye West has joined forces with Serena Williams, designing her outfit for this year’s U.S. Open. Serena will be wearing a black one-shoulder dress with Nike’s logo, accompanied by Virgil’s signature quotation graphic with a full tulle skirt, customized pair of sneakers and an Abloh-designed jacket. The tulle was a nod to Williams’s love of ballet and dance.
In his statement, Abloh said he “was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis.” That mission seems to have been accomplished as the public will get to see Williams and her new tennis look at the end of this month during the U.S. Open. A limited edition of Williams’s dress, jacket, and two sneaker styles inspired by her look will be available at select Nike locations in the United States later this month
