SuperJazzClub began 2022 by releasing their bossa-nova inspired track ‘MAD’. In this song the collective sought to speak to human emotions that are less often discussed in contemporary music.
The song touches on the emotions of anger and how that could lead to some violence and chaos. To make the delivery of the subject matter a bit more playful, SuperJazzClub employ childlike and spirited characters to vocalise these emotions over chill guitars and mellow drums to push the contrast even further.
To visualise this, the collective have created a music video which tells the story of a group of delinquent friends who have found solace in each other and live life by their own rules; life that is void of empathy and filled with drugs, crime, and violence amongst other things. Directed by fellow collective member, Gloria Dennis, the video takes the viewer on a journey which starts relatively calmly but quickly reaches a boiling point and ends on a victorious note.
The collective has proven to be creatively diverse in the past and this video is no different. The collective seeks to expand their reach with their new audio-visual direction of storytelling, on the back of a premiere of ‘MAD’ at Soho House in Paris on the 11th of June.
