THIS IS US Unveils its Flagship Store in Onikan: A Home for Design, Craft, and Community

//

Homegrown Nigerian design brand THIS IS US proudly announces the opening of its flagship store in Onikan, Lagos Island. The new store was unveiled at a store preview event during Art Week on the 8th of November 2025 to guests, which included friends of the brand, collaborators, customers and the international art community.

Housed in a newly restored three-story tropical modernist building, the space brings the brand’s ethos, Live Work Wear for the Conscious Creative, to life through architecture, craft, and community.

The building is located just steps from the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture & History and directly behind the brand’s manufacturing studio. The flagship stands at the heart of a growing creative hub, flanked by IAMISIGO and Plan B Lagos. Originally designed in the 1970s by architect Akintunde Tejuoso, the building has been thoughtfully designed and renovated in collaboration with Papa Omotayo and the MOE+ Art Architecture team into a multifunctional home for design.

The new flagship houses three key spaces:

  1. A retail floor showcasing THIS IS US pieces alongside a curated selection of homegrown
    design brands.
  2. A Maker Studio, dedicated to craftsmanship, experimentation, and textile research.
  3. A Creative Residence, designed to host artists, collaborators, and slow-making practitioners (Opening March 2026).

A Celebration of Nigerian Creativity, Inside and Out

The store features a selection of design and art pieces from some of THIS IS US’ favourite creative collaborators, including Omi Collective, Nmbello Studios, Butlers Archive, Fantastic Plastic, IAMISIGO Home, and critically acclaimed visual artists Sola Olulode and Fiyin Koko. Each piece reflects the brand’s commitment to contextual, locally resonant design.

Every detail of the space has been beautifully captured by photographer Daniel Uwaga, whose documentation preserves the spirit, textures, and intimate energy of the flagship.

One of the store’s most beloved features is the THIS IS US Wall of Fame, an ever-growing installation celebrating the brand’s community. The wall displays photographs of customers, friends, and supporters who have shaped the THIS IS US story over the years. It is a tribute to the people who wear, live, and grow with the brand.

“We wanted to create a space that feels like home, a place where people can linger, have fun, and take it all in,” say founders Oroma and Osione Itegboje. “This building stands as a beacon of design, craftsmanship, and community. It represents where we started, who we’ve become, and the people who made it possible.”

Rooted in Process, People, and Place

Founded in 2016 after a journey across Northern Nigeria, THIS IS US continues to work closely with communities in Funtua, Kano, and Lagos Island. The brand’s signature textiles are woven from Nigerian cotton and hand-dyed in the centuries-old indigo pits of Kofar Mata. Every garment reflects a chain of care, cotton farmers, dyers, tailors, and designers working together across time and tradition.

The flagship store extends this chain, allowing visitors to experience the full breath of the brand:

  • Signature tees featuring “This is Funtua, Nigerian Made Cotton”
  • Uniform Wear, inspired by workers in mills, dye pits, and workshops
  • Cross-disciplinary collaborations with IAMISIGO, Waf, PITH, Dye Lab, and more
  • Home accessories that expand the brand’s design language beyond clothing

Through this new home, THIS IS US deepens its commitment to longevity, zero-waste design, re-dye services, and creative exchange.

You are invited to explore the store and enjoy an intimate introduction to the world of THIS IS US.
