African fashion has been on the rise over the past few decades; the idea of style and taste has given birth to younger generations who are socially conscious of how important fashion’s place in their individuality is and in modern day pop-culture.
For many years, December in Lagos has been synonymous with different sorts of events spanning across music and entertainment, but there’s not a lot that can be said about the fashion events in detty december.
It’s time we create more ecosystems that help foster the growth of our local fashion, and help foster new and fresher ideas. Currently pioneering a new age in the scene is 777— a new platform established to help bridge the gap between fashion creatives and the youth. The event was established by two young minds wo passionate our fashion, enough to want to influence their generation. Twezei (20) and Benson (21) are far away from home most of the year to study Business and Nursing respectively, but they’re also using this privilege as an opportunity for cultural exchange and more audience. 777 was held in Houston last month and the highly anticipated grand edition is happening in Lagos today. We had a chat with the creators of 777, and what they have in store for us.

Will it be an annual event?
Yes, it’s definitely going to be an annual event and we plan on hosting events around the globe for the youth who are interested and really fuck with the movement.
What impact fo you think this will have in the Nigerian space?
I feel that a lot of kids are going to level up and break out of that box or sphere of self doubt and just kick ass while being themselves. Encourage the next generation to really be free and themselves.
Do you believe that high fashion is more ethical than street fashion?
No, we definitely think street fashion is more ethical than high fashion. A lot of the pieces you’d see us with are made by a lot of these kids out here who make street wear on their ones with the most minimalist materials.
