With Cardi B leading the way for female rappers in 2017 as she tops the billboard hot 100 charts at No. 1, breaking different records with her hit single ‘Bodak Yellow‘.
Africa seems to FINALLY understand that our queens spit fire bars and they should have an equal place in the genre.
With artist like Bella Alubo, Tinuke, AT, Charlie, and a lot more all around Africa, its exciting to see them rise and carve their own market.

SoundCloud being the home of all things; breaking boundaries in the African New Age music scene, you’d find amazing female musicians putting out incredible sounds. Though I found through a submission Rukky Agofure known as her rap alias ‘Yiri‘ and her new creative single called ‘Distance’ featuring Rookie SBK, Mr. Jollof with production by Janee Sound, SoundCloud was home to her too.

The song is an all out spazz on people who appreciate her art, a call to her haters who keep her going and life lessons she’s picked up along the way. It’s a creative single in its own sense, with a mix of her bars, an intriguing interlude by Mr Jollof, Rookie serenading the track with his vocals preparing us for the final set of bars and a voice memo to Rookie by Yiri, It had me replaying a few times.
An easy listen showing Yiri’s delivery skill and her unique way of putting together a track from her own understanding of creating music, you can’t really term this hip-hop, she’s a rapper free from that as she puts different elements all coming together to form a lovely single worth your playlist.

I’m eager to see what she has to offer, have a listen :
