Since atomic angel Amaarae dropped her debut album ‘The Angel You Don’t Know’ on the 12th of November, it’s been on a steady repeat here at Morebranches. Amaarae is making the best out of the current moment in dropping the video to JUMPING SHIP with Kojey Radical & Cruel Santino, and I could make a good guess that this is the first of more to come.
JUMPING SHIP is about leaving a current lover in pursuit of a new love interest. The visuals have a lush brilliance of red, blue and green, set in a space that reminds me of where poets and philosophers sip wine and vibe in Dante Alighieri’s Inferno.
Amaarae enters like a corset-clad princess as she sings ‘You gon’ make me leave the one I’m with, jumping ship’. Kojey Radical dons a suave African print suit, and Cruel Santino evokes spooky season with a black leather jacket and a Fear of God tee. The jackets, durags, beads & jewellery which embellish the video’s overall style give it a yes from me.
Amaarae always takes her visual game seriously and now she’s produced another work of art for her fans. JUMPING SHIP is definitely one to watch today, next week, and whenever you’re fiending for quality content.
