Review: BNXN Shows Sonic Dexterity On Bad Since ’97

Last year BNXN FKA Buju shined brightly on his sophomore project “Sorry I’m Late.” It was more of an enticing offering rendered to stake the rise of a new star. Sorry, I’m Late also puts his fans first which anchored them to an apologetic title, as the project succeeded in laying the foundation which Bad Since ’97 is now built upon.

Currently, BNXN is on the course to cement his place amongst contemporaries within the soundscape. BNXN hopes to showcase growth with this new project, the depth of his range as well as how he leaps towards expanding his coast. On “Bad Since 97,” BNXN formed alliances on a few tracks with Olamide, Wande Coal, and Wizkid.

The 7-track project captures BNXN in several states of mind. On the opener track titled “Bad Since ’97,” BNXN connotes how long his musical journey had begun, how he deserves his flowers now while he adulates himself, and speaks on not being underrated. It’ll only make sense to start his coming-of-stardom project by unraveling his thoughts on himself and his journey so far and why he feels he’ll be one of the best to ever do it. For BNXN fka Buju, he understands his peculiarity and adores it; which is one thing Bad Since ’97 unveils confidently.

For the second track “Bad Man Wicked,” produced by UK-based producer TSB; BNXN rhymes lyrics flawlessly while fusing seductive melodies. No doubt BNXN is the star he proclaims he is. On the Wizkid-assisted track “Many Ways” which is more of a Caribbean-style beat produced by Juls, BNXN dished out the chorus, intro, and outro while allowing Wizkid flex his lyrical muscles talking about his favorite woman and how he has got his attention on her and ready to solve her problems. “Kenkele,” captures the iconic Wande Coal on the chorus as BNXN unearths stories about his past and more.

As for Olamide’s assistance on “Modupe,” both artists become grateful for everything. Escaping the captivity of poverty, leaving the trenches, and embracing the limelight. Truly it is something to be genuinely thankful for. BNXN also adulates himself on this track proclaiming himself the best, his heart of gratitude was intact and true. The project also had tracks like ‘In My Mind’, and “Loose Emotion,” where he talks about a love gone sour and how his emotions faded. “Bad Since ’97,” expresses how BNXN’s sonic dexterity and how much he’s grown as an artist since his break out which now feels like a long time ago.
