It is new music Friday and we’ve got new music from some of rap and afrobeats heavy hitters. Check out three of our favorite songs for this weekend.
M.I Abaga Feat. Sauce Kid & Erigga – TBDK (This Beat Dey Knock)
When the rap OGs link up? “E dey enter like doormorth”. If there’s a trio that could show rap songs could be relaxed, delivering bars and still be a bop, M.I, Sauce Kid, and Erigga are the big homies. Chopsticks’s piano and drum loop production is more than just melodic, twisting boom-bap giving it a pidgin character that comes to life on its own. M.I blends his rap OG style with pidgin, taking the chorus and serving as a bridge between Sauce Kid and Erigga’s Warri-flavored rap.
TBDK (This Beat Dey Knock) is M.I Abaga’s second single, coming after him and long time rival, Vector’s, collaborative single; Crown of Clay.
Jae5 Feat. Rema, Skepta – Dimension
Hard to believe Jae5’s first single is Dimension, as he’s been around since his production for J Hus took them to stardom, and more recently producing for Wizkid, Koffee, Popcaan, and on Burna Boy’s grammy-winning album Twice AsTall.
Talking about the single, Jae5 says “For my first single, I wanted to pull off something that represented me well. It had to be heavily influenced by Afrobeats and the UK urban scene. Skepta and Rema are the perfect combinations. ‘Dimension’ is a meaningful track with a vibe! Skepta as always delivers the maddest verse and Rema on the hook—that guy just isn’t normal! I hope everyone enjoys the track.” The Ebeneza Blanche-directed video which was shot in Ghana dropped along with the single.
Naira Marley Feat. Busiwa – Coming
Naira Marley tries his hand at Amapiano and gawwwd! Coming to features South African Busiwa and is as sexual and explicit as Naira Marley gets, opening his first verse mentioning as many positions he could fit into, he moves into the chorus where he tells Busiwa he’s been looking for her since and he wants to “tete tete”.
